Phlebotomy Service
Blood samples taken by our trained phlebotomist, with the price for your test confirmed before you come in.
Fast, convenient blood sample collection carried out by our trained phlebotomist, without waiting for a GP or hospital appointment.
Before you book
- The price depends on the test. A £20 deposit is taken when you book, and the pharmacist calls you 24 hours before your appointment to confirm the test and the full price.
- We do not interpret results. We take the sample and the laboratory reports it. We do not give medical advice, a diagnosis or treatment recommendations, and we do not contact your GP on your behalf.
- We cannot use testing kits bought online. That includes finger-prick and venous kits from third-party providers — please do not book for one.
How the service works
- Book a blood sample appointment. A £20 deposit is taken, and comes off the cost.
- We email you a form to confirm which blood test you need.
- The pharmacist phones you 24 hours before your appointment to confirm the test and the price.
Before your appointment
- Drink plenty of water. Being well hydrated makes veins easier to find.
- Eat normally, unless you have been told to fast for your particular test.
- Wear sleeves that roll up easily.
How long do results take?
It depends on the test. Many routine tests come back within one working day of the laboratory receiving the sample. Specialist and hormonal tests can take several working days, and occasionally weeks.
Can you take blood for a testing kit I bought online?
No. We do not draw blood for patient-supplied testing kits, or for samples you intend to send to an external company yourself. That includes finger-prick and venous collection kits bought online from third-party testing providers.
Results and medical advice
We take the sample. We do not interpret blood test results, and we do not provide medical advice, a diagnosis or treatment recommendations.
We also do not contact your GP or any other healthcare professional on your behalf. If your results need discussing, that conversation belongs with whoever asked for the test.
If we cannot get a sample
For your comfort and safety, our phlebotomist will make up to two attempts during the appointment. If both are unsuccessful we will rebook you for seven days later, and there is no additional phlebotomy fee for the rebooked appointment.
Stopping at two keeps discomfort down and reduces the risk of bruising or vein irritation.
Cancellation and non-attendance
If you cannot attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as you can.
- An appointment missed without 24 hours’ notice counts as a non-attendance.
- The £20 deposit is forfeited.
- A new appointment and a new deposit are needed before another can be arranged.
