Free NHS consultations for seven common conditions — usually same day, no appointment needed.
Pharmacy First is an NHS service that lets you see a pharmacist for seven common conditions without needing a GP appointment. The consultation is free, you do not need to book, and if a medicine is the right answer the pharmacist can supply it there and then — including some that would normally need a prescription.
Just come in and ask. Your GP practice or NHS 111 can also send you to us. The pharmacist will talk to you in the consultation room, check that the service is suitable for you, and either treat you or point you to the right place if it is not.
Each condition has its own age range, listed below. Any medicine supplied under Pharmacy First carries the usual NHS prescription charge, and the usual exemptions apply. With your agreement, we let your GP practice know what we have done so your records stay complete.
What Pharmacy First covers
Sinusitis
Blocked, painful sinuses that are not clearing. For anyone aged 12 and over.
FreeSore throat
A sore throat that is not settling. For anyone aged 5 and over.
FreeEarache
Painful middle-ear infection in children and teenagers aged 1 to 17.
FreeInfected insect bite
A bite or sting that has become infected. For anyone aged 1 and over.
FreeImpetigo
A contagious skin infection with crusted sores. For anyone aged 1 and over.
FreeShingles
A painful rash caused by the chickenpox virus waking up. For adults aged 18 and over — come as soon as the rash appears.
FreeUrinary tract infection
Uncomplicated bladder infection (cystitis) in women aged 16 to 64.
